Earlier known as “Himalayan Academy”, the idea of the best boarding school spread over a vast campus, was conceived by Mr. S.K. Agarwal in early 1990s. Being outstanding in academic and games in his own school days, Mr. Agarwal was fascinated with the idea of a boarding school, which would not only focus on academics, but strive to bring out the best in a child. This desire, converted into a mission, when he saw a boarding schools in Chennai and Dehradoon. He came back with a plan, to start something like that in our Siliguri and Jalpaiguri regions as well.
Being from a humble business background, it took him more than 5 years to just plan and arrange for the resources to start the school. Finally in the year 1997 and with just 60 students, HIRS started.
There were two major millstones in its 25 year old history so far, 1st in the year 2009, when “Himalayan Academy” became “Himalayan International Residential School” with the introduction of Cambridge Curriculum, and 2nd was in the year 2018, when we opened our door for local communities also by starting day school service.
We are continuously working to become better and we hope you enjoy knowing more about us as you browse through the pages of this site.
